O, the pumpkin! That bright orange orb that shouts of fall…and county fairs, and festivals, and of pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie. Just seeing a grouping of them releases a feeling of home and family and warmth!
So, let’s look at some of the ways people use this mighty vegetable. Today, we’ll look at STACKING them! Enjoy!
This is not a natural occurrence around the Owens’ home, but today, I felt like Suzy Homemaker. All day.
First I loaded up the dishwasher, then washed them, then washed the ones that didn’t get clean in the dishwasher. UGG! That is so ANNOYING to me! And then I put all the wet glasses out on a towel to dry, because the dishwasher DOES NOT DRY THEM!!!
Then, I put up all the remaining decorations from the shower away, and set the table with my pretty acorn dishes.
I bought this great muffin tin last year at Williams-S*n*ma. Strange, I know. Mom was with me when I bought it and I remember her saying, “What are you buying THAT for…you will never use it!” HA! Look what I did, Mom!
Now, I know she would have been immensely prouder of me if I had made the banana bread from scratch, but that would be pushing it juuuuuust a little too far! Besides, this is the only kind of banana bread my family has ever had from me and I wouldn’t want to shock them too bad!
Then I put them in this great piece I got last week with Tina and Shirl. And, I actually felt quite proud! Don’t they look good?
Can you smell them? Yummy!
Why, yes! Yes, they were delicious!
Now, the directions said that you should take 2 of these and spread softened cream cheese on 1 and top with the other. Like a little acorn sandwich! Well, I was feeling all baking goddess like, but there has to be a limit! And, besides I was still in my cuddly sweats and I would have to change to go to the grocery store, and I just couldn’t push myself to do it. And, I haven’t seen many baking goddess types shopping at the W*nn-D*x*e!
And, then came a knock upon my door. And who should come in to sample my baking prowess but my sweet friend, Addison, Patty’s granddaughter. She thought I did really well, too!
And, then I remembered that Alex does not like banana nut muffins. His favs are blueberry. So, I quickly made him a batch while I was still in the kitchen. That was a couple of hours ago. He has just woken up and came into the studio and asked me if I could please make him something sweet to eat. And, right before his eyes, I produced a batch of blueberry muffins! The smile that crossed his face was worth more than all the cute pans in the world!
And that is just about all the steam I can muster up to work in the kitchen today. Hmmm. I have some chicken salad in the refrigerator….wonder if you could make little acorn sandwiches with that? Well, now…I think that sounds like a mighty fine supper. OK…so I’m ODing on domesticity…maybe I’ll just order a pizza!
There is so little on TV these days that is worth your time. But, these are 2 that I particularly like.
This is Season 6 for this dance show, and it only gets better. Most of these kids have put in years of practice to earn the right to compete in this show. But, there are also those who have never had a lesson, and they are right up there in the competition. How they get their bodies to move like they do is a mystery to me. They are able to convey such emotion and feeling in their performances. I feel like the whole concept of the show is a testament to the intricacies of the human body. We are truly ‘wonderfully made’.
Did you know there were as many differing types of dance as there are? Each genre has a whole slew of different dances and at different tempos. And, each has its own set of rules. There is, of course, Latin, and Ballroom, and Broadway, and Contemporary and Ballet, to name a few. And, then there are all the new styles…hip-hop, crumping, bead. These are not as clearly defined to me as the afore mentioned styles. They have even added the new Bollywood style, and another Russian style folk dance! So, for a dancer to be proficient in all the styles or to be able to learn it in a week, is amazing. Here you are watching the very best in the dance world.
I think any artist, whether in music, dance, painting, photography,or writing deserves to receive accolades for putting in the work it takes to become a master at what they do.
Then there is Glee. This is just a feel good, fun to watch, silly show. It is quite cleverly written…but not enough to win any awards. It is like a doughnut for the brain…full of sugar, sort of filling, and fun to consume! Enjoy!
And, to prove how diverse my viewing habits are, I will mention here another favorite show that always intrigues the viewer…House. He is such a flawed person. But as hard as he tries, he can not contain the spark of humanity that truly wants to help those who find themselves on his service. This show never disappoints. So, change that # to 3. Actually it is on right now, so TTYL.
WAIT!!!!! I almost forgot the best show of all time, LOST! It has been the best written, most confounding, complex show ever. These writers are genius! You can swear you know what is coming next, but, you’re wrong every time! So clever. They jump up in time…go back in time…even change time. And they do this for each character. A must see…every week! Go ahead, add one more to that #. Commercial’s over…bye!
Welcome to the Baby Shower…for John Thomas Bush. Scheduled to enter the world around November 28…but predicting he makes an early arrival!
On Thursday afternoon after she finished work, Tina came over to help me get ready. We put together this pretty fall display near the front door. Thanks, Tina, I could not have gotten it together without you!

Joy and Tara with gifts displayed…
Joy at the punchbowl…well, the punch bucket. Our punch (Suzanne’s recipe) was delicious…and yellow. We added food coloring to make it blue. Then floated little yellow ducks in it! Yellow boas around the bottom are duck feathers! Actually it’s looking a tiny bit green, isn’t it?
Lori and Patty talking it over…
What a great time we had! Joy and I have been so fortunate to have wonderful women in our lives since we were little girls. Most of them have been good friends of Mom’s…and involved in church with us. These ladies taught us when we were younger, worshipped with us, and set an example before us as we watched them live their lives. Several of them attended the shower today. It made Joy and I feel so good that these ladies who were such close friends of Mom’s chose to spend time with us yesterday. We felt that it was as if a little of Mom was there with us as we honored Tara and her coming baby.
But, not only that, we also had some young ladies, Laura and Morgan, along with their Mom and Grandmother attending. Joy kept these 2 lovely girls when they were babies up until they started school.
So, we had a nice mix of ages. Sweet friends all.
This is Betty, Neva, Jeanette.
Here is Tara, Tina, and Michelle.
Linnie, Tonja, Dot…
Joy and Tara…Mother and Daughter…GiGi and Mommy…
Before we all left we made some more pics. Crazy Patty was making these pictures! We told her here to please just get the top part of us…she did.
The women in our family…Joy, Lori, Tonja, Tara, Suzanne.
We said, don’t get the bottom of us…our feet hurt…and we all happen to be a little rounder in that general vicinity! She didn’t listen!
Finally…she got it right! But, SHE ain’t right!
Tara with her hostesses.
Also attending were: Shirley and Jayna, who drove over from Moultrie. Jayna and Tara have been very close friends forever! Will’s Mom, Jean, and Tara’s sister in law and good friend, Olivia, and her 2 little ones. April, Pat, Lisa and her Mom. Juanita, Mary, Suzanne’s Mom and Jan and I hope I didn’t leave anyone out! Several of our close friends couldn’t be there due to prior commitments. And several others brought their gifts early.
What an honor to be able to have these sweet celebration in my home. Joy has always been so generous with her daughters through the years, and allowed me to love them and love on them. And, I do love them both dearly. I am so excited for Will and Tara. They will be wonderful parents, and little John Thomas will have a huge family…on both sides…to love and support him as he grows.
Tara is on bedrest until she delivers due to BP problems, but after next week she will be 33 weeks, and that is a milestone she really wants to make (she and her doctors). She had a shower last week and another one today…so I imagine she is going to be ready to rest!
A wonderful day, with good friends, and much to celebrate!
What a sweet surprise I received from my blogging buddy and fellow “B” Club member, Kat, at Just A Beach Kat. Kat is one of the first friends I made in the blogging world, and I love keeping up with her exciting life! Here are the rules for the award:
1) Present this award to others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me. 2) Tell those people they’ve been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving. 3) Share “10 Honest Things” about myself.
10 HONEST THINGS ABOUT ME…..
1. I buy too many magazines. And, I do not like to throw them away. So usually I will go through the magazine and pull out pages that I want to keep. Which, in all honesty, does absolutely no good, because I can never find the torn out pages when I go looking for them.
2. I think every occasion calls for a little chocolate!
3. I LOVE pretty paper! I could spend hours in the scrapbooking aisles looking at the decorative papers…and I want it all! I like old paper, and wrinkled paper, and torn paper, and even brown paper bag.
4. I have watched The Young and The Restless since I was in college. I never miss it…I have my DVR set to tape it every day. Sometimes I’ll just watch the whole week on Saturday. Goes a lot faster when you can FF through the dumb commercials! I used to watch All My Children, but it got too ‘out there’…even for a soap!
5. Why should ‘procrastination’ be seen as a problem? If it gets done before the deadline…it’s done!
6. I eat crackers in bed.
7. If I were to light all the candles (new and used) that I have in my house…it would set off all the fire alarms and/or burn the house down!
8. I can not swim very well…in deep water…or shallow water, actually. But, I am a champion floater…on a raft…especially the ones with the cup holder built into the arm.
9. I have a new mattress…a Tempurpedic! It is wonderful! It is fabulous! It is worth every mega buck we spent for it! I think I should probably spend more time in bed so we will get our money’s worth out of it!
10. I started my Christmas shopping last June…but, I won’t finish till the week of Christmas! Trouble staying on task, you know!
I am a Christian woman who has survived many years on the planet. God has blessed me with a wonderful family: husband, 3 sons, a dear DIL, and a precious grandson. I also have dear friends to keep me inspired. I am an artist of sorts and am finding my way through the great blessing of retirement. I recently retired after 20 years as a music teacher. Life is good!
